VM Infrastructure Engineer

Tasks

• Build, configure and maintain VMware ESXi hosts and virtualised environments.
• Perform day-to-day VMware vCenter administration and operational activities.
• Patch VMware hosts and support infrastructure maintenance.
• Build and support virtual networking using standard and distributed switches.
• Provision and manage virtualised infrastructure through operational and change-management processes.
• Conduct operational reviews of VMware infrastructure configurations.
• Help ensure virtualised environments and related services remain stable and reliable.
• Troubleshoot VMware host, virtual machine and infrastructure issues.
• Investigate environmental performance problems and identify appropriate resolutions.
• Interpret logs and analyse performance data to identify root causes.
• Assist other technical teams with virtual server troubleshooting.
• Work across compute, networking and storage when resolving complex infrastructure issues.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation to improve VMware operations.
• Create and maintain operational and process documentation for VMware environments.
• Support infrastructure project planning and implementation.
• Manage multiple operational and project priorities.
• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability and operational processes.
• Act as a technical consultant to internal customers on VMware and virtualisation topics.
• Provide guidance around troubleshooting, user support and infrastructure planning.
• Support technical teams through clear communication and knowledge sharing.
• Help educate stakeholders on virtualisation environments, processes and operational best practices.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience supporting a VMware vSphere infrastructure.
• Knowledge of VMware ESXi, vCenter and vSAN.
• Proven VMware administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Good understanding of Cisco UCS, SAN storage and networking.
• Experience troubleshooting through log interpretation and performance-data analysis.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Understanding of virtual networking, including standard and distributed switches.
• Strong technical documentation skills.
• Good planning and project-organisation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A customer-focused approach and strong problem-solving mindset.
• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical knowledge and experience.
