OBI is seeking a highly analytical, proactive, and commercially driven Business Operations Controller to join our Regional Finance team in Budapest. You will report directly to the Hungarian Finance Principal and partner with regional leadership, taking full ownership of critical financial reporting, operational forecasting, business intelligence, and performance management for Hungary.

Tasks

  • Independently drive the month-end review process, ensuring the accuracy of financial results, and collaboration with the Accounting department.
  • Analyze OPEX lines (Rent, Energy, Maintenance, Marketing etc) to deliver deep-dive financial commentaries and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Lead weekly financial performance reviews, synthesize actionable insights, and present operational dashboards during Monday leadership and operations calls.
  • Manage the tracking of standard KPIs (Sales, Gross Profit, Margin, Stock), providing proactive guidance to Category Management and Sales Management teams to optimize performance.
  • Active participation in the quarterly forecasting and annual planning processes across Sales, Margin, Costs, Working Capital, and Cash Flow.
  • Conduct sophisticated historical trend analyses to build robust, multi-layered forecast scenarios
  • Partner with operations to translate monthly sales / gross profit targets into daily actionable plans
  • Handle further technical parts of the forecasting and planning process
  • Responsible for the accuracy and submission of planning files into central financial systems
  • Design, optimize, and maintain advanced local dashboards using MicroStrategy, Excel, and Google Sheets
  • Develop targeted performance trackers to evaluate promotional ROIs and propose turnaround strategies for underperforming stores.
  • Proactively evaluate and model the financial impact of local commercial initiatives
  • Ensure smooth obligatory data submissions to local authorities and statistical bureaus, and serve as the key local liaison during financial audits.
  • Deliver complex ad-hoc analyses for various business needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • 4-6 years of experience in Business Controlling, FP&A, or Commercial Finance, preferably in a fast-paced retail, FMCG, or multinational environment.
  • Advanced/Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Google Sheets
  • SAP - Confident in extracting data, analyzing monthly OPEX, and independently managing month-end tasks.
  • Hyperion / Essbase - Experience with forecast/budget planning, variance analysis, and systemic maintenance.
  • Strong business acumen and an analytical mindset
  • Highly proactive and autonomous
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • MicroStrategy (or Power BI / Tableau) - Proven ability to build, maintain, and automate business dashboards.
  • Hungarian: Fluent
  • English: Fluent / Advanced
  • German: Advantageous
